Why are the Marines so important?
Our Mission. As America’s expeditionary force in readiness since 1775, the U.S. Marines are forward deployed to win our Nation’s battles swiftly and aggressively in times of crisis. We fight on land, sea and air, as well as provide forces and detachments to naval ships and ground operations.
Is joining the Marines dangerous?
Being a Marine can be very dangerous, especially during wartime. This of course can be attributed to the fact that Marines essentially pave the way for other larger forces that move in after the major fighting has been done.
What is special about the Marines?

They have their own air support, they have their own armor, and they have their own infantry. There isn’t much the Marine Corps can’t do on its own.
Why do Marines say Hoorah?

Why can Marines put their hands in their pockets?
The front pockets of military uniforms are not cut and sewn to permit hands without showing a significant bulge, which destroys the clean lines of the uniform. The USMC even prefers that virtually nothing be placed in any pockets, which is why Marines put cigarette packages and wallets in the top of their socks.
Is it wrong to call a Marine a soldier?
They are not soldiers. They are Marines. Marines are distinguished by their mission, their training, their history, their uniform and their esprit de corps. You would not call a sailor a soldier, an airman a soldier, and certainly you should not call a Marine a soldier.
Do US Marines go to war?
Thousands of Marines are always deployed aboard naval amphibious ships ready to respond to an international crises. This ability to mobilize quickly has allowed the Marines to become the United States’ ready-reaction force. The Army on the other hand is a much larger force and is used in larger and longer conflicts.
Do drill sergeants swear?
Except this is the new Army, an army that no longer allows drill sergeants to be cussing, ranting, abusive beasts. They cannot slap, hit, kick, punch or call privates names anymore.
Do female Marines see combat?
A total of 92 women are operating in a multitude of combat billets across the Corps, from rifleman to armored reconnaissance to combat engineers. Yet only 11 enlisted women are serving today in the traditional “03” infantry career fields, Marine Corps officials said.
